Setting up your Kumihimo disc to braid

Measure your thread
Keeping in mind the length of thread for each warp is 2 – 3 times the finished length of the braid. A simple way to measure the correct amount of thread is to multiply the finished length of your braid X 2 (to allow the correct length for each warp)
Multiply this length X 2 and cut 4 (when tied in the centre this bundle gives you 8 warps)

Tie your threads
Using a short thread and a slip knot, tie the four lengths of thread together in the middle. (Refer diagram A.)  This will give 8 warps. When held by ‘the little scrappy piece’ the finished length will be twice the length you require for your finished braid.

Set your warps up on the disc
Place the tie of the threads (the little scrappy piece) over the hole in the Kumihimo disc. Position the threads around the disc as follows:

North in slots 32 and 1
South in slots 16 and 17
East in slots 8 and 9
West in slots 24 and 25

Make sure the threads are held firmly in the slots of the disc.
